We were in the mood for a little reggae and when we heard this song, it reminded us of a project we recently completed.
In our industry – in the “construction life” in Bob Marley terms – we face a lot of challenges. But we don’t worry and neither should our clients, because one of TP Mechanical’s greatest strengths is our ability to tackle the toughest projects. People hire us because they know we can handle the unusual jobs, and we’re used to it by now. With a little optimism and a LOT of thinking outside the box, we believe anything is possible.
TriMold LLC, a plastic supplier for Honda, first came to us because they had a mandated adjudication order from the local authority to install fire sprinklers in their facilities.
We knew this job would require some above-average TLC to handle the high-hazard commodities and production systems of this type of facility. But as we worked on the initial designs, we realized right away that this project was going to be a great example of the TP Mechanical team rising to the challenge.
We know our clients have a lot more to do when running their business than deal with the extra tasks involved with installing a fire protection system to remain compliant. That’s why we strive to provide comprehensive customer service. Before we were even awarded the job, we went the extra mile and devised some preliminary designs to figure out the scope of the project and then handled getting preliminary approval from the local building officials.
For starters, the facility was located in an area with minimal infrastructure, so the water supply was not sufficient enough to meet the standards of the design.
No problem, we said.
We engineered a system that included an above ground 200,000-gallon water storage tank, a diesel engine-driven fire pump, a pump house structure, new underground piping and three fully-sprinklered buildings. Additionally, we provided footings and foundations for the new tank and pump house.
When our team – led by jobsite superintendent Dan Miller – started on site, they discovered that the poor soil conditions would not support the foundation of the 834-ton, 32’ X 34’ water tank.
No problem, we said.
We went back to the drawing board, did some research and utilized Geopier technology to ensure soil stabilization.
The rest of the project had a few more little blips, but nothing we couldn’t handle. We worked around a fully-occupied facility so that TriMold could go about their business as usual. Like always, we worked tirelessly to make sure that we provided superior customer service by employing our high standard of safety, working clean and providing consistent communication and regular updates. We delivered a top-of-the-line fire protection system, on time and in budget.
